Snowboarding gained its modern appearance in the mid-1960s when the American engineer Sherman Poppen invented a new toy for his daughter to slide in the snow by joining two old skis to make a board.
The new toy he invented started to be called "snurfer" by joining the words "snow" and "surf".

A company named Brunswick bought the rights to the engineer and began to sell the product. But it was only in 1977 that snowboard began to really draw the attention of the sports industry. Therefore, new companies were
created. In the 1980s, the sport gained more strength when it began showing up in advertisements and movies.
